Undying love is now extinct, so it
would sound rather unusual if lovers of today mouthed the lines, “Na yeh chand hoga, na
taare rahenge. Magar hum hamesha tumhare rahenge” (which meant, “Neither
will this moon be there, nor will the stars. But I’ll remain yours forever.”)
But the track from Shart (1954)
was certainly an immortal composition by Hemant Kumar, who rendered it with
Geeta Dutt.
While some of his contemporaries’
pseudonyms included the names of their hometowns, S H Bihari, who penned this
song, probably wanted to ‘state’ that art transcends geographical boundaries.
