Although Bhosle
was a phenomenal singer in her own right, her struggle to step out of her
illustrious older sister Lata Mangeshkar’s (A)shadows seemed interminably long.
However, even the
songs she (Bhos)lent her voice to in the period before she attained superstardom
B(hosl)elid that fact.
The seeming ease
with which she rendered Mud Mud Ke Na
Dekh Mud Mud Ke – which, at six minutes and 34 seconds, was the longest
track in Shree 420 – was a case in
point.
The duet was
penned by Shailendra and composed by Shankar Jaikishan. Her co-singer was Manna
Dey.
