Two men who shared
initials teamed up for a track, which went on to become a very pOPular club
song.
They were Om
Prakash Bhandari (better known as Qamar Jalalabadi) and O P Nayyar (whose first
two names were Omkar Prasad).
The song in
question was Aaiye Meherbaan from Howrah Bridge (1958). It was penned by
the former (whose pseudonym meant the moon from Jalalabad, which was apt because
he did shine) and composed by the latter.
It was rendered
by Asha, who was, more or (Bhos)less, a fixture in Nayyar’s exclusive club of
singers.
