When C.I.D. released, Mumbai was called
Bombay in English and Bambai in Hindi. The city may have been rechristened, but
one thing certainly doesn’t seem to have ended – the debate regarding the ease
or difficulty of living in it.
There couldn’t
have been a more precise description of that than the lines of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Jeena Yahan, a track from
the film. They were penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri.
Barring the (now
non-existent) mills and trams that Mohammed Rafi sang about, the O P Nayyar
composition still holds true. Geeta Dutt was his co-singer.
