Bhosle (As)had the kids enthralled

Vachan (1955) didn’t just give Rajendra Kumar (V)achance to display the histrionics that would later earn him the moniker of Jubilee Kumar, but also marked Ravi’s debut as a composer.

It was the film whose soundtrack included Chanda Mama Door Ke, the solo Asha (Bhos)lent her voice to.

A popular children’s song, it harks back to the Golden Era, when kids must’ve been content eating puyen (deep-fried sweet bread) and probably fussed over drinking doodh (milk) with a layer of malai (cream).

It was obviously penned with a whole lot of Prem by Mr Dhawan.
