Vachan (1955) didn’t just give Rajendra Kumar (V)achance to
display the histrionics that would later earn him the moniker of Jubilee Kumar,
but also marked Ravi’s debut as a composer.
It was the film
whose soundtrack included Chanda Mama
Door Ke, the solo Asha (Bhos)lent her voice to.
A popular
children’s song, it harks back to the Golden Era, when kids must’ve been content
eating puyen (deep-fried sweet bread)
and probably fussed over drinking doodh
(milk) with a layer of malai (cream).
It was obviously
penned with a whole lot of Prem by Mr
Dhawan.
