Musically, Khan made Bollywood Amir

On August 15, 2017, India will celebrate its 71st Independence Day. The day will also mark the 105th birth anniversary of Ustad Amir Khan.

Primarily a classical vocalist, he (Indo)rendered raga-based tracks in a handful of Hindi films in the 1950s.

One of these was the title track of Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje, which released in 1955.

Obviously, music aficionados of that vintage welcomed his Des(a)ision to collaborate with the composer, because it Vas(a)n’t uncommon for exponents of classical music, many of whom were (Jai)purists, to look down on film music.

Hasrat penned the track.
