Teer is Urdu for arrow and Hindi for banks – not the ones that the
producers of some hit films laugh all the way to, but those of rivers.
Of course, it
was the latter that Rajinder Krishan was referring to when he penned Kaise Aaoon Jamuna Ke Teer (“How can I
come to the banks of the Yamuna?”)
But there’s no
doubt about the fact that it pierced, as an arrow does, through the hearts of numerous
Hindi film music aficionados.
C Ramchandra
composed the track from Devta (1956),
which was sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
