Every verse of Ichak Daana Beechak Daana, from Shree 420, contained a (Jaipu)riddle by
Hasrat. The Shankar Jaikishan composition was five minutes and eight seconds
long.
Lata Mangeshkar
rendered four of the five brain-teasers. The answers to them were anaar (pomegranate), mirchi (chilli), bhutta (corn) and mor (peacock).
There’s no doubt
about the fact that Mukesh Chand’s verse, the last of the five, was the most
Mat(h)ur(e) of the lot. And therefore, perhaps a tad incongruent with the
remainder of the song, which was for kids.
The answer to
that was hum (I, not we).
