Dey (Bhim)sent people into raptures

By the time Ketaki Gulab Juhi, from Basant Bahar, was penned by Shailendra and composed by Shankar Jaikishan, their careers were in full bloom.

Incidentally, Basant and Bahar were also the names of the ragas on which this track was based.

It wasn’t just a duet, but was also one of the most famous vocal duels in the history of Hindi film music.

One of the singers Dey picked was Manna. That was a no-brainer, given his expertise in rendering classical songs that have gone on to become classics.

The other was Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.
