It was Lata’s unChained meloD(e)y

Such was Shankar Jaikishan’s love of Raga Bhairavi that it would be unfair if a track based on that melodic mode weren’t incorporated in Basant Bahar, which was what Westerners might refer to as a musical.

The song in question was Nain Mile Chain Kahan, which was penned by Shailendra.

It was a duet picturised on the film’s lead pair. While the heroine lip-synched to the voice of the iNim(m)itable Lata Mangeshkar, Manna Dey sang for Bharat Bhushan (who could be called BB of BB and BB fame, because he starred in Baiju Bawra too).
