The sisters sang with Apl(a)(o)mb

Although there is no iota of doubt that it is catchy, it’s safe to presume that the phrase Aplam Chaplam comprises a couple of rhyming words that have no meaning – at least not in Hindi.

Having said that, the track from Azaad (1955) was aplam project for Usha Mangeshkar, the fourth of the five Mangeshkar siblings and the youngest of the four sisters.

Her co-singer was none other than her oldest sister Lata, and coincidentally, it was picturised on a pair of dancing sisters who were Bharatanatyam exponents.

Rajinder Krishan penned the C Ramchandra composition.
